Rationale and Purpose of the Module:

Is í aidhm an mhodúil seo ná spás ar-líne a chruthú a thabharfaidh deiseanna do fhoghlaimeoirí machnamh a dhéanamh ar a gcuid foghlama agus scileanna staidéir agus ar chur chuigí maidir leis an bhfoghlaim teanga. Cruthóidh an timpeallacht deiseanna do fhoghlaimeoirí a gcuid taithí foghlama a dhoiciméadú trí mhodhanna nuálacha a úsáid atá bunaithe ar dhea-chleachtais i gcás na foghlama teanga. Tabharfaidh an modúl léargais ar na factóirí indibhidiúla atá bainteach le foghlaim an dara teanga, ina gcuirfear béim ar leith ar an bhfoghlaim éifeachtach teanga. Beidh an deis ag an mac léinn próifíliú a dhéanamh air / uirthi féin agus a c(h)uid buanna agus laigí mar fhoghlaimeoir a mheas. Coimeádfaidh mic léinn taifead leanúnach ar a gcuid foghlama agus bainfidh siad leas as cur chuige éifeachtach i gcás na foghlama teanga de réir mar a oireann dá gcuid riachtanas. Tá an modúl deartha sa tslí go bhfreastalaíonn sé ar an bhfoghlaimeoirí mar dhuine aonair le riachtanais ar leith agus beidh sé in oiriúint do fhoghlaimeoirí éagsúla ón bhfoghlaimeoir traidisiúnta teanga go dtí an nuachainteoir dá bhrí sin.Is dlúthchuid den mhodúl an taithí phraiticiúil ar úsáid na Gaeilge sa Ghaeltacht. [Translation for internal use only] The module aims to provide an online space for learners to reflect on their learning and on their study skills and approaches to language learning from the onset of the course. The environment will create prospects for students to document their learning experiences by using innovative methods based on best language learning practice. It will give insights into the individual differences associated with second language learning with particular emphasis on effective language learning, It will present opportunities to create self-profiles and to identify strengths and difficulties of the learner as an individual. Students will keep regular and consistent logs and will enjoy the benefits of a successful approach to language learning that best suits their needs. The module is designed to cater to the needs of the learner as an individual and therefore will suit a wide range of learner types with varying requirements, from the more traditional L2 learner of Irish to new speakers of the language. Gaeltacht-based self-reflection is central to the learning experience.

Ionduchtú agus oiliúint ar Sulis; scileanna staidéir go traidisiúnta agus go féinriartha; ag foghlaim teangacha; an ghné mhothaitheach den fhoghlaim teanga féinphróifíliú; an fhoghlaim éifeachtach teanga; ag aithint agus ag cruthú deiseanna úsáide sa sprioctheanga; ag aithint buanna agus laigí i bpróifíl an fhoghlaimeora; conas glacadh go héifeachtach le haiseolas maidir le botúin chruinnis; tréimhse foghlama sa Ghaeltacht (1). [Translation for internal use only] Induction and training on Sulis; traditional and autonomous study skills; how languages are learned; language learning and emotions; learner profiling; effective language learning; recognising and creating opportunities for use in the target language; identifying strengths and difficulties in the learner profile; receiving feedback on accuracy errors, Gaeltacht-based learning experience (1).

Agus an modúl seo críochnaithe go rathúil ag an mac léinn, beidh sé nó sí in ann: tuiscint a léiriú ar na fachtóirí indibhidiúla atá bainteach le foghlaim an dara teanga agus ar na tréithe atá aitheanta leis an bhfoghlaim éifeachtach teanga; buanna agus laigí pearsanta san fhoghlaim teanga a mheas; inniúlacht a léiriú maidir le féinmhachnamh ar an bhfoghlaim a dhéanamh; agus aiseolas criticiúil a ghlacadh agus a chur i bhfeidhm go héifeachtach. [Translation for internal use only] On successful completion of this module, the student will be able to: demonstrate an understanding of the individual factors associated with learning a second language and of the traits associated with effective language acquisition; evaluate personal strengths and weaknesses in the learning of the language; illustrate the ability to self-reflect on learning; and receive and implement critical feedback successfully.

Agus an modúl seo críochnaithe go rathúil ag an mac léinn, beidh sé nó sí in ann: léargais phearsanta maidir leis na mothúcháin dearfacha agus diúltacha a bhaineann le foghlaim agus le húsáid teanga a léiriú; agus léargais ar an tábhacht a bhaineann le ham a chaitheamh sa Ghaeltacht / le freastal ar ócaidí cultúrtha Gaelacha don fhoghlaimeoir teanga. On successful completion of this module, the student will be able to: share personal insights on positive and negative emotions around language learning and use; express insight into the importance of spending time in the Gaeltacht / at Irish language cultural events for the language learner.

Cuirfear an modúl i láthair trí chur chuige cumaisc a úsáid ina dhéanfaidh foghlaimeoirí tascanna sioncronacha agus aisioncronacha a chur i gcrích go leanúnach thar dhá sheimeastar. Bainfidh na mic léinn úsaid as uirlisí foghlama fíorúla chun iad a chumasú ar mhodhanna cumarsáide; chun teacht ar ábhar; doiciméadú a dhéanamh ar a gcuid taithí foghlama pearsanta; agus chun glacadh le haiseolas ar na tascanna agus fóraim ar-líne. Beidh tascanna seachtainiúla le déanamh ag na foghlaimeoirí agus gheobhaidh siad aiseolas maidir le comhréir, botúin ghramadaí, litriú, an scríbhneoireacht acadúil agus saibhriú teanga. Cuirfear treoracha soiléire ar fáil ar an suíomh ag tús gach seachtain maidir leis an tasc agus tacófar leis na mic léinn san fóraim chainte. Beidh fáil ar acmhainní ábhartha ar an suíomh ag an mac léinn. Beidh turas Gaeltachta mar chuid lárnach den mhodúl. Is ar eolas, ar chruthaitheacht agus ar fhreagracht na mac léinn ach go háirithe a dhírítear ó thaobh tréithe an chéimithe de. Tarraingíonn an modúl ar thaighde atá déanta i réimse foghlama an dara teanga (Dörnyei and Skehan, 2003; Ellis 2007) ina gcuirfear béim ach go háirithe ar an Dea-Fhoghlaimeoir Teanga (Naiman et al, 1995; Griffiths, 2008). Cuirfear torthaí taighde a bhaineann le taighde tráthúil ar an dea-fhoghlaimeoir Gaeilge (Ní Chlochasaigh, 2014) i bhfeidhm i dteagasc an mhodúil. Áireofar an taighde comhaimseartha ar an nua-chainteoir Gaeilge (Walsh et al. 2015) chomh maith le suntas a thabhairt ar ról an fhéinaitheantais i bhfoghlaim na teanga mhionlaigh (Ní Dhonnabháin, 2013). [Translation for internal use only] The module draws on research carried out in the field of Second Language Acquisition (Cook, 2008; Dörnyei and Skehan, 2003; Ellis 2007) with particular emphasis on the Good Language Learner (Naiman et al, 1995; Griffiths, 2008). The findings of a recent study carried out on effective language acquisition in relation to the Irish language will be included in the teaching of the module (Ní Chlochasaigh, 2014). The topical issue of new speakers of the Irish language (Walsh et al. 2015) will be incorporated in the module as well as taking into account the identity issues associated with learning the L2 as a minority language (Ní Dhonnabháin, 2013).
